Dating is a universal phenomenon wherever you go. People date each other before they get married and the age of dating is consistently decreasing through time. Technology now plays a large role for finding prospects and its access has never been this easier. However, that goes on to say the span of time a couple stays together has become shorter. Concepts that were once taboo before like multiple dating have become mainstream. Is there still such thing as Christian dating?
Dating – the Christian Way
You need not act like a Bible-thumping guy to find a girl who also upholds Christian beliefs. Your godly demeanor will naturally come out the moment the two of you start knowing each other. When you start dealing with one another, respect your partner (1 Timothy 5:1-2) like what you do with your mother and sister. Do not worry – you can do just about anything as long as you do not confine with illicit sex (1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
The church endorses a love triangle when you start dating someone. Before you go nuts over this crazy-sounding premise, this is not the same with melodramatic romantic flicks you see in movies or in social media. Here, you put God first in your relationship (Matthew 6:33) where He acts as the guide for every decision the both of you make.
Remember to date one person at a time. You are not just doing it for fun but for a woman who will stay with you for life. Also insist that you will be introduced to her parents and vice versa. Christian dating suggests a couple should not confine themselves with their own world. Instead, they are encouraged to spend their activities in groups, along with people who know them well. Keep in mind that Biblical dating has marriage as its end in mind. Harmonious relationship with the couple’s respective families is also developed in this phase.
Christianity and Modern Dating
As time passes, our notion about dating has changed a lot. Gone are the days when you had to send handwritten letters and know each other for weeks before the two of you become an item. Online dating has become a viable avenue for single men who are looking for partners. Meeting new people is just a click away. You may even go all the way with the girl you met hours ago if both of you wanted to.
Maintaining a long-term relationship is now harder than before. Modern dating dictates you try multiple partners first, then you will give your hand in marriage to the one who you feel like giving. Engaging with sexual activities has become the norm. Intimacy comes before marriage and not the other way around. The Bible warns us about having premarital sex (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). Unfortunately, that is where most people stumble, including those who profess Christianity. This is especially harder for us guys because of peer pressure and the associated machismo with the male sex. Men are like hungry wolves, they say. However, you can never find a single line in the Bible which endorses premarital sex.
Perhaps you think Christian dating is now a relic in the past. On the contrary, this is the high time for you to stand proud with your conviction. Moreover, you are preparing yourself to be with the girl you date for the long run. Beyond meeting the status quo, we live our life for God.
