As they say, depression is the common colds of mental disorders. Meaning, everybody have depression at one point in their lives. It’s a common occurrence and sometimes people don’t even realized they were undergoing depression. In fact, there’s no shortage of troubling instances in our life that can make us depressed. Below are the different ways on how to overcome depression the Christian way.

Before you can fully understand why you are undergoing depression, be sure to understand depression beforehand. This means that you need to take the effort in learning more about depression and researching on ways how you could overcome it. When you learn more about depression, with all its medical terms, symptoms, reasons why it occur, what it is doing to your body and etc., you’ll soon be able to determine the stages of depression in your life and how to overcome them. Thereby making you more able to understand yourself better. If you have the scientific knowledge on depression, you can acknowledge when it’s occurring, you can avoid the things that can trigger it and even get yourself out of its menacing tentacles all by yourself.
Eat Healthily and Exercise Daily
Exercise is usually the last thing you want to do when you are feeling anxious and depressed. However, when you get to motivate yourself enough to do exercises every day or go to the gym thrice a week, it can actually make a whole lot of difference. With exercise comes an improvement of your mood. Your body will feel better, you’ll gain confidence, and you’re body will no longer release hormones that can worsen your depression. Couple this with eating healthily, avoiding eating food that can further worsen your depression, you’ll have a lot more chance of being able to recover over your depression. Thus, the best way to improve your mood is to live healthily.
Daily Reflection, Affirmations and Prayer
When you’re worried or whenever anxiety enters your mind, always make it a point to turn to prayers. Praying actually reinforce your faith and usually eradicates any anxiety and negative thoughts. Prayer will not only let you remember that you have a bigger God than your problems but it will also let you realized that you could give all your trials to God and He will solve it for you.
Additionally, reading the Bible and doing daily reflections is also a great way to help in overcoming your anxiety and depression. I know reading the Bible is very difficult when you are depressed. But when you do it ever day, you’ll be reminded of the power of faith. There are also passages in the Bible that can help you overcome your depression.
With daily reflections, this is another way of training your mind to focus on the positive side and not on the negative stuffs. With doing this daily, affirming to yourself that you are strong, you have a big God and you can overcome all depression with His help, it would train your mind to depend on your faith. When you discipline your mind over these trivial matters, you’re also disciplining yourself over your depression.
Talk With Your Family and With Your Community
Talking your problems with your family or your friends or even your pastor or an elder in your Church will actually give you a lot of benefits emotionally. First, you didn’t keep your problem to yourself. You voice it out to the world, thereby releasing them and easing tension in yourself at the same time. If only people would talk more about their problems with their family, friends and even in your community, there would be no people going to Psychiatrists to get help.
Lastly, if you’re having a hard time expressing yourself to your family or even to your church members, there’s always the option to seek help professionally. The good thing about talking to a Psychiatrist, you could be assured that they would listen to you all the time. It is also one form of releasing your problems to the world and easing your tension at the same time. So if family members, friends and elders are not available, good old trusty Psychiatrists should be an option.
